Awards to recognise recordkeeping skill
The Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) has opened nominations for the annual Sir Rupert Hamer Awards.
A spokeswoman for PROV said the awards recognised achievements in good records management practice in Government agencies and local Community Archives.
She said the awards had been presented by the Public Records Advisory Council (PRAC) since 1998 and were named after Sir Rupert Hamer, who was Premier when the Public Records Act was passed in 1973 and when PROV opened its first office and repository in 1975.
She said Sir Rupert had an ongoing interest in public records, records management, Government accountability and cultural heritages.
The spokeswoman said the awards were made to Government agencies for projects that significantly improved business efficiency and effectiveness within the agency, and agencies that ensured a high level of compliance with Government records management policies, regulation and standards.
She said nominations could be submitted in four categories: small, medium, large, and regional/rural agencies.
There were also two categories for Community Archives nominations: preservation of records of significance to the local community and the State, and providing enhanced records access to the local community.
The spokeswoman said nominations closed in April and would be followed by an awards ceremony in May.
